Michael "Doc" Rosgen -Strings/Fretted/Voice
My name is Michael “Doc”Rosgen.. I have been a music instructor since the 1980s. I have been in full-time “private practice” at Keeney Bros. Music Center since 2005. I currently teach violin, fiddle, guitar, dobro, banjo, mandolin, piano, and voice to students of all ages, stages, and styles. I believe that there is an instrument for everybody, but not every instrument is for everybody, and that One String Leads to Another.
I received my Master’s Degree in Music Education from the University of Idaho, where I also taught Music History and Music Methods, and received an Outstanding Faculty Award. As an undergraduate and graduate student, I earned a 4.0 GPA and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. I was a “non-traditional” student who finished my education after being a professional musician for over a quarter of a century.
As a singer/songwriter/instrumentalist, I performed a wide variety of musical styles, including: classical, country, folk, rock, pop, jazz, blues, bluegrass, gospel, contemporary Christian, Broadway musicals, and Opera. Some of the world ethno-music genres that I have performed and taught are: Celtic and Old English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Latin, Greek, Russian, Mexican, Latin American, Native American, Caribbean and Calypso, Cajun and Creole, Gypsy and Flamenco, Near Eastern, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern, Asian, African, and Australian. I toured extensively throughout the western United States and in Canada from Manitoba to Vancouver Island. I was fortunate to have had such a wonderful performing career from which I have retired in order to dedicate my time and talents to teaching music.
I am enjoying this stage of my musical life and career. Everything that I have done to this point has prepared me to be a music instructor that can help to guide my students to achieve their goals and desires, and to help make their musical dreams become a reality, as mine have. Keeney Bros. Music Center is an awesome place to have my music studio where their mantra is the same as mine: Stop Dreaming, Start Playing.
